About Deerfield Township
Deerfield Township is located in Lenawee County in southeast Michigan, within a region long shaped by agriculture, small settlements, and the River Raisin valley. The area was originally part of neighboring townships before being formally organized as its own civil township in 1867. It was later expanded in 1869 when additional land was annexed from Ridgeway Township.
The township’s landscape was formed by fertile soils and gentle waterways, making it ideal for farming and settlement. Much of its early growth centered around the River Raisin corridor, which provided water access and rich agricultural land that continues to define the township today.
Today, Deerfield Township remains a predominantly rural community characterized by farmland, residential neighborhoods, and small businesses, while maintaining its historic roots as a close-knit agricultural township.
